The Origin Story

We didn’t start with content or followers.

We started with a barbell and a dream to build a community that trained for more than just looks.

In 2012, we opened our gym - Achieve Fitness - in Somerville, Massachusetts.

It wasn’t flashy, but it was real. Over the next 8 years, we coached everyday people from all walks of life to move better, get stronger, and build confidence in their bodies.

That brick-and-mortar gym became a nationally respected space for functional fitness, inclusive coaching, and educational content. We taught workshops across the country, trained hundreds of coaches, and were featured on The Today Show, Men’s Health, and Women’s Health.

When the world shifted online, we didn’t stop coaching - we brought our entire philosophy with us. And that’s when Theory of Motion was born.

What We Stand For

We believe real strength is functional - not just aesthetic. We believe mobility matters just as much as muscle. And we believe everyone deserves to train like an athlete - no matter your age, background, or experience level.

Our programs are built on what works in the real world: Structured progressions. Smart movement prep. Functional strength. Joint health. And a training experience that meets you where you’re at
- whether you’re in a full gym or your garage.

Every program we build is shaped by years of coaching, our experience as athletes and parents, and the lessons learned through real life.

What They Say
About Our Method

When I started working out for the first time in years about a year ago, I started by just trying to be consistent in the gym, but found myself being unsure about what to do, when, and how to plan. In addition, I knew that I wanted strength for function, not just to be strong, and didn't know how to put that into words with a trainer or how to implement it in a plan. After finding Jason and Lauren on Instagram I decided to join Theory of Motion and it was the best decision I've made for my health. They have great workouts with variety that targets functional strength, stability, and mobility, while still encouraging heavy lifting and progressive overload. While the workouts are complete, they also have alternatives that make it easy to adapt to my preferences, goals, and gym equipment. Having these workouts has created even more consistency in my workouts and increased my motivation to be stronger. I can see my strength grow when I'm working in the garden, lifting my dog's heavy food bag, and at work. It's encouraged me to return to playing volleyball, going on longer hikes, and swimming more.

I absolutely love the Theory of Motion app. I am someone who thrives when they are following a program but get bored easily of programs that don't switch things up. This program has been such a blast. I was an athlete in college, so I was able to pick up some tried and true moves that were familiar but it is so fun to learn new exercises that challenge me but in a very scaffolded way. The videos and options for alternative exercises are fantastic and helped a ton when I sprained my thumb over the holidays. It made it feel like a program that is made for real people but also not too "beginner" where it felt like the athlete in me wasn't being challenged. Things that are particularly helpful are the volume intro videos--it made me feel connected to the program like I am checking in with my trainers. Also, the part that I love that surprised me the most? The warm-up. All the flexibility and mobility work has absolutely made a difference in my ability to train without injury and tenderness in my back. I have never paid so much attention to my hips and it's long overdue. I can't imagine a fitness regimen without it!

Before I started Theory of Motion, I was inconsistent with my training, didn’t prioritize following a program, and my workouts were more random, which made it hard to see progress. I’ve been training with Jason and Lauren for nearly 6 years now, and it has helped me become more consistent, ridiculously stronger, and feeling more confident in myself than I ever have before! Theory of Motion is extremely modifiable and I am grateful for the strategic programming and adaptability of the training. No matter if I’m working out in a gym or at home, I can modify my exercise selection depending on what equipment is available. Not to mention, being apart of the community has been a great way to stay motivated and watch others get strong and change their lives in a positive way. Thank you Jason & Lauren!

As I personal trainer I trusted Jason and Lauren’s program to provide quality, evidence based workouts that would help me reach my personal goals while focusing on my clients and Theory of Motion delivers. I’ve continued to gain strength, improve mobility, and the functional exercises have been a welcome challenge. I love how the program provides an in depth overview with each new phase and the fact that there are modifications for exercises so that literally anyone can benefit from the programming no matter where they are in their fitness journey.

I have used the program for a number of years now and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The programming is kept fresh and covers all bases in strength , mobility and muscle building so it really is suitable for everyone. Lauren and Jason take all the guesswork out of training for you and manage to deliver a product you can use to progress on an ongoing basis all at a very accessible price point. If you’re looking to start fresh in the gym or simply looking for someone to give you proper structure to your workouts then look no further than the Theory of Motion program.

I've been doing the Theory of Motion program for years and can honestly say it's helped me gain more strength than anything else I've done. It's also helped me increase my overall fitness, improve my mobility and finally get my first pullup (after years of trying). Most importantly, thanks to Jason and Lauren's thoughtful program, I'm walking taller and moving with more confidence throughout the day, whether I'm at work, on the court coaching basketball or trying to keep up with my two kids.

I’m 54 years old and started strength training in junior high for football. Over the years, I’ve tried everything from bodybuilding, CrossFit, kettlebells, and Olympic lifting, but the Theory of Motion program has been my favorite by far! It’s a perfect blend of strength building, functional fitness, mobility work, unilateral and multi-planar exercises that keeps you motivated and never gets boring. I’ve been following the programming for over 2.5 years and I’m stronger now than I was in my 30s and with better form too! I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get stronger and more mobile!

I love the Theory of Motion program! As a personal trainer myself, it is perfectly written. I've studied biomechanics and I'm a pre/postnatal corrective exercise trainer and how they design the workouts is exactly how I would design mine for my clients. It has the perfect mix of power, strength, and accessory work to support your strength goals, mobility and posture. As a trainer, I love having someone else tell me what to do because I'm so busy writing up other programs. I'm very picky in who I choose for my workouts and I trust Jason and Lauren because they have so much knowledge and they really know what they're doing. Theory of Motion is by far one of my favorite workout programs.

I found Jason and Lauren on social media many years ago when they were using the handle “achievefitnessboston” and was immediately drawn to their philosophy and no-nonsense approach to working out. I continued to follow them from afar until they launched their unique online program, which was a complete game changer for me. Jason and Lauren seamlessly thread mobility and prehab into their program, consistently create new content to keep the workouts fresh every month and still manage to offer enough exercise variations to meet you where you’re at. Theory of Motion feels like a living program where Jason and Lauren have the freedom to evolve their platform while maintaining the same thoughtful intention that doesn’t rely on trends or fads. I never felt confident when it came to working out, but Jason and Lauren changed that and I’m incredibly grateful.

I have been following Lauren and Jason for years on social media since they owned their gym and always found their content to be so informative and inspiring. After years of seeing their videos, I decided to take the leap and become a subscriber to their programming. The program is easy to follow with lots of modifications or alternative equipment options if necessary, and I always look forward to what the workouts have in store for me. Their warmups and cool downs are the perfect beginning and end that I may not do on my own if they weren't included. They make it realistic and achievable while also helping you reach your goals. Their content is some of the best out there - consistent, authentic, and helpful! It's my go-to preference for workouts! Thank you for creating such a varied, clear, functional workout system accessible to all!

Theory of Core has been the absolutely best thing I’ve done to level up my overall fitness. I have had 2 kids (age 3 and 4 currently), and have trained consistently my whole life. Adding the program to the end of my workouts 3 times per week helped me achieve the most strength my core has ever had. In turn, my overall fitness and strength has improved too. It was a game changer for me and I tell everyone about it. I will never not incorporate what I’ve learned from the program into my weekly training. Thank you for this program!

I am a huge fan of PURSUIT:Core! I had my eye on it for a while and finally got it, and I'm so glad I did. It's very well thought out, and it's clear how much care and effort Lauren and Jason put into the programming. My favorite part is the follow along videos- absolutely clutch. I usually have a hard time motivating myself through core exercises but the videos make it so easy to just follow along and get it done. Thank you!

As of today I have done 107 workouts with Jason and Lauren! This is the first program that has meet me where I am at. I started with 2 workouts per week and have worked up to 4 per week. I look forward to the workouts and always feel so powerful after completing them! Theory of Motion has helped me squat below 90 degrees without knee pain, something that was never achieved before. Even when I have had to take a break (illnesses, surgeries) I always returned to this program. Having different workouts each day and a new volume every 4 weeks keeps things fresh and exciting yet allows you to see the progress! The Theory of Motion Team is so helpful and responsive! I am constantly recommending this program to family and friends! Thanks team for being AMAZING!!!

At 56, I don’t just want to “get older gracefully”—I want to get stronger. I want to live fully, move freely, and do more. That’s why Theory of Motion is the perfect fit. It combines strength and mobility in one efficient program, so I build muscle while also keeping my body agile. The results have been incredible. On a recent National Park vacation, I could scramble over boulders, jump down from ledges with confidence, and navigate the trails with ease. Even at home, I notice the difference—heavy landscaping feels easier, and I can bend, lift, and move with far less effort. Jason and Lauren help me age with strength, not limitation.

Looking back, it has been 5 years that I have been part of the Pak’s journey. I admire their dedication to fitness and helping others achieve (see what I did there?) their fitness goals efficiently and safely. They are generous with their knowledge and constantly striving to better their programs. It has been an outstanding program that has seen me through many phases the last 5 years. I love the latest split programs and surprisingly, feel like I am getting more out of the workouts than ever before. I am looking forward to what they have in store for us and excited to be part of the journey. I can’t recommend their programs enough ! Many thanks for your generous dedication.

Jason and Lauren's training has everything I looked for in a program. I’m a former college athlete now in my thirties who still wants an athletic training program, but obviously I no longer have time to train like that (especially as a busy MD student). I enjoyed CrossFit for awhile but found I was fatigued, not getting much stronger, and getting overuse injuries. I bopped around through several programs until I found Jason and Lauren, whose program has everything I was trying to piece together before—mobility, power, strength with progressive overload, and extras like sprints, complexes, and olympic lifting. Finally, I’m consistent with an incredibly thoughtful, well-rounded program I love because I know when I go to work out, I’ll have everything I want and need. The options for 2, 3, and 4 day programs make it even more flexible for whatever life throws at you!
